1.2.1 Purpose

Students who seek further studies abroad have diverse reasons for attaining such goals or seeking such goals. Universities welcome students from all over the world in China and most students go through a lot of changes based on their new environment. The purpose of the study is to look at what factors affect Ghanaian college students’ adaptation into a new environment or university and to advice on it.

This study will first have to understand the different situations Ghanaian college students face in different universities through survey by way of questions and phone interviews. The study will further look at relevant literature and deduce concepts so as to make comparisons and get the outcomes for the topic of study. Lastly, what factors affect the adaptation process of international students as whole and Ghanaian college students in particular. Furthermore, demographic, environment will be used to establish relationships with CCA so as to get a detailed understanding of different factors affecting CCA.

1.2.2 Significance

From the above purpose, on the one hand, this study uses a complete set of influential factors to verify how they affect CCA. On the other hand, this study hopes to assist international students improve on the understandings of cultural interaction and adaptation in China. The contribution of this study is not limited to the perspective of Ghanaian college students, but it will help Chinese university management in devising her friendly policy or rules and regulation that will enhance the relationship between international and local students in terms of the demographic and environment variables explored.
