Each of thesescholars did many researches and made great efforts while translating these valuabletreasures, and most of their works have profound influences in Chinese translation andliterary area. And in order to present the most beautiful aspects of ancient Chinesepoetry to the foreign readers, many translators and translation theorists have tried greatefforts to find ways to deliver better translation.In the translation area, there are also many influential ideas, ranging from“faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance” of Yan Fu to Xu Yuanchong’s “threebeauties”. From all of these points, people can clearly see that classical Chinesepoetry’s translation has been blossomed and mushroomed in the passed years. However,in the process of translating, many scholars and translators feel that poetry translation isreally a kind of tricky work. Because as a special literary branch, poem is a unity ofcontent and form, especially Chinese poem, which not only includes content and form,but also the image, rhyme, and artistic ideorealm. As to the question of Chinese poetrytranslation, different people have different opinions. There has been a wide dispute inthe academic area as to whether to reserve the content or the form of the source text.Some hold that, without any suspicion, great importance should be given to thetranslation of content, because translation is a process of decoding and encoding, themost important role of translation is to transfer meaning. While some others believe thatform should enjoy a higher position, they hold that it was form that distinguishes poetryfrom other kinds of literary works.
