摘要:本文试图将翻译理论运用于戏曲翻译中,通过对伯奇、张光前和汪榕培分别翻译的《牡丹亭》三个英译本的翻译特点剖析了译者在“语言维”、“交际维”和“文化维”等方面所使用的三位转换策略,从而证明该理论对戏曲翻译的适用性。

Third, since the ecology belongs tonatural Science while translation is categorized to humanities and social sciences,Eco-translatolagy faces the task of stepping beyond the boundary and overcoming thediscrepancy so as to make them organically whole.


1.2 Focus of the Research研究焦点
New as Eco-translatology, it creatively provides us a comprehensive survey of translation from aspecial angle. Actually, “an ecological perspective strives to see how all things areinterdependent, were those apparently most separate” (Kerridge 7). In this thesis, questions aboutthe core and the philosophical basis of this theory will be firstly solved and then the applicabilityof it to the three English versions of Peony Pavilion will as well be verified. As the very centralessence, an approach to translation as selection and adaptation which emphasizes how thetranslators select and adapt in the translational environment to achieve the most suitabletranslation predominates over the other eight focuses and theoretical perspectives of theEco-translatology. They are namely the ecological paradigm, the ecological rationality, dongingthings with translation, the translational environment, three dimensional transformations, thepost-event penalty, and the last but not the least one, the sequence chain.Peony Pavilion is a well-known classical Chinese legend play of Tang Xianzu in Ming Dynasty.Together with The Romance of West Chamber, Palace of Eternal Life, and The Peach BlossomFan, they constitute the world-renowned four Chinese classic plays. In the past four centuries,great effect was created by its theme, plots and language, and countless young women weremoved to shed flood of tears for Du Liniang, the protagonist in the play. Such a masterpieceshould be introduced to the world, but only three English versions of the brilliant work exist inthe world today. The very first version was accomplished in 1980 by Cyril Birch from theUniversity of California, Los Angeles, USA, while the second one in 1994 by Professor ZhangGuangqian from Chinese University of Science and Technology, and the third one in 2001 byProfessor Wang Rongpei from Dalian Foreign Languages Institute. Which one among them isqualified to function as the spiritual bridge that can convey more vividly and incisively the verveof the original text to the world? With the theoretical tool of “three dimensional transformations”,we are going to find the satisfactory answer through the angle of Eco-translatology.This thesis is mainly to deal with the applicability of the Eco-translatology theory in literarytranslation, the question about how the translators of the Peony Pavilion select and adapt in thetranslational environment through the three dimension transformation, the evaluation of the threeEnglish versions of the Peony Pavilion, the better dissemination of Chinese culture throughtranslation, the development of Eco-translatology, and the potential theory of translation will besolved.


1.3 Significance of the Research研究意义
