1.2 Purposes and Significance of the Research
The paper probes into the effect of vocabulary learning method based on FrameSemantics on L2 vocabulary acquisition for Chinese non-English majors through an empiricalstudy. The first purpose is to investigate whether there is an effect of vocabulary learningmethod based on Frame Semantics on L2 vocabulary acquisition for Chinese non-Englishmajors in comparison to the traditional method. If the hypothesis about the positive effect ofthe new method can be proved at the beginning of the empirical study, there are other threepurposes as following. One is to explore whether diversity exits among the learners withdifferent English proficiency levels. The other is to discover whether the effect on L2vocabulary acquisition alters with the flow of time. The last but not the least purpose is toprovide the data to the study on Frame Semantics and L2 vocabulary acquisition.This research is of great significance. Firstly, it provides evidences for verifying thehypothesis that there is a positive effect of the vocabulary learning method based on FrameSemantics on the L2 vocabulary acquisition for Chinese non-English majors in comparison tothe traditional method. With the new mode of facilitating the acquisition of English words,learners can not only fully understand their exact meaning, but they also get access to theirpractical usage. Secondly, many linguists have already accepted the multidisciplineforeground of L2 acquisition study. Both the production of other branches within linguisticsand the fruit outside it are gradually introduced to the field, yet there is hardly any attempt toconduct a comprehensive study to combine Frame Semantics to L2 vocabulary acquisition (tobe exact, the acquisition for English words), let alone an empirical research on this topic. Atlast, the results of the research will be helpful for L2 vocabulary learning for students and thevaluable data it provides will support and guide the conducting of the vocabulary teaching forteachers in college.

 

1.3 Organization of the Thesis
This thesis covers six chapters. They are (1) Introduction, (2) Literature Review, (3)Theoretical Framework, (4) methodology, (5) Results and Discussion, (6) Conclusion.Chapter 1 is an introduction part. It describes the background, purposes and significanceof the research as well as the organization of the thesis.Chapter 2 reviews the literature that is relevant to the present study,which contains threeparts. Firstly, it presents the production from the study on frame semantics. Then, it introducesthe related findings of L2 vocabulary acquisition.
