1.2 The Purpose and Significance of the Study
The  present  research  is  one  of  the  first  in-depth  and  comprehensive  studies  that investigate  the  feasibility  of  task-based  vocabulary  teaching  method  in  senior  high  school based  on  the  content.  The  aim  of  this  thesis  is  to  analyze  problems  of  English  vocabulary teaching that exist in senior high school under the new curriculum standards, and then explore the  effective  method  of  English  vocabulary  teaching,  to  arouse  the  students’  interests  in English  learning  and  to  strengthen  students’  awareness  of  cross-linguistic  and  sense  of language,  and  then  encourage  them  to  think  in  English.  The  thesis  doesn’t  only  benefit  a better understanding of ESL, but also paves the way to further study on how to learn English vocabulary  effectively.  Combining  with  the  present  teaching,  the  author  strived  to  deal  with these following research questions:  1.  Is  the  task-based  approach  more  effective  in  improving  vocabulary  teaching  than  the traditional approach? 2.  How  efficiently  can  the  students  improve  their English vocabulary learning  through  the task-based approach? 3.  What are the students’ attitudes towards task-based vocabulary teaching? The  significance  of  this  thesis  is  of  great  importance  both  in  method  and  practice.  By applying  an  experiment,  a  questionnaire  survey  and  SPSS  statistics  package,  the  author studies  the  task-based  approach  of  English  vocabulary  teaching.  Not  only  does  the  thesis open  a  complete  new  path  to  researching  the  English  vocabulary  teaching,  but  also  it contributes  to  improving  students’  English  vocabulary  learning  ability  based  on  the  present level and the current teaching condition.
