A Newspaper Influences a Country

As early as 1984, in "Forbes" magazine, the cover story stated that Rupert Murdoch has created the largest ever Media kingdom in the world, and would get the world leadership. (William, 1992) However, with the British "News of the World", being good at listening, the open secret in the industry has been revealed, just more than 10 days, the butterfly effect has made Murdoch have to face the biggest crisis in his commercial career , also made the British politics face the impact without precedent in his history.
Murdoch has become a target of public attack at present. However, before the scandal, we have had to admit that the Empire of Murdoch gave an active impetus to politics, the people's livelihood and other aspects in England, even the whole world.
The British laws give the media some rights of patent, essentially, they give a way out for the free speech and the supervision of public opinion with specific conditions. Although the plaintiff suffered a reputation for libel damages, the detractors may still be sheltered and do not assume any liability. For example, "News of the World" has revealed the sex scandal of the Vice President of the British Conservative Party, and disclosed the news about Michael Fred Phelps, the Olympic swimming champion in the United States, took drugs, and other news. (Grover et al 2004)
At the same time, the tabloid newspaper of Murdoch Empire are also the important force to promote the change of the laws in England. For example, The Sunday Times case prompted the British to modify the relevant laws. (Sunday Times, 1979)
Of course, Murdoch himself is also a legendary figure. His original understanding about the press helped him to develop a local newspaper company into the world's largest integrated media company. His business acquisitions means and methods is the classic case the business industry take delight in talking about them. (Alison, 2006)
Although the media commercialization of Murdoch Empire makes today's news be changed beyond recognition, and the news is damaging the objective of serving for the most public interest. The British people do not trust the journalists any more, and even hate them, and such situation is worse and worse. (Putnam, 2000) However, there is no denying that just because Murdoch's media consumerism, on some life and political issues which may be directly harmful to the public benefit, they report them as the important commercial and public content within the scope prescribed as the mainstream ideology, which plays the positive role in increasing the living and political influence. (Neil, 2001)
