this study when introducing the appraisal system, in order to facilitate its smooth introduction to the Organisation, maximising its potential. The Proposal must therefore, critically assess any benefits to the Organisation, and consider any possible negative implications on the workforce of introducing an appraisal system.


研究问题/假设---Research Questions / Hypothesis:


One of the most complex and multifarious aspects of management is organisational behaviour back it up with a reference. Multifarious is an awesome word!. Due to time limitations, this study will be limited and as such will focus only on the effect on employee’s motivation and behaviour. The research questions that will form the basis for the study are:


Does a merit-based performance appraisal system cultivate an environment, within which the employee’s motivation and behaviour are improved, or is it a source of conflict between the management and the employees, where the employees view it as a negative process?


Will the appraisal resort to a discussion related predominantly, if not exclusively, to salary?


What effect will negative feedback from an appraisal have on an employee and how should the Organisation manage this delicate situation so that a positive outcome for both the employee and the Organisation is achieved?

Does an appraisal system improve the Organisation’s financial performance as well as its employee’s development?
Increased motivation within the workforce will increase productivity and so, financial performance back it up with a reference.


The hypothesis for this study is that the implementation of a merit-based performance appraisal system will positively influence the employee’s motivation and behaviours, and the Organisations financial performance back it up with a reference. Critique that with Meyer et al journal. Although it must be recognised that the implementation of such a process must be handled with care and sensitivity and include all stakeholders, incorporating all employees, in the appraisal system design stage preceded by extensive consultation. The buy-in of all stakeholders is imperative for the initiative to succeed with its objectives. Therefore, the employees must become a central figure in its implementation. Add reference to Buchner 2007 journal, p.40 preparing for successful PA implementation?

This research proposal will investigate the extent to which employee’s motivation is affected by both the news that an appraisal system is being introduced and by the appraisal process itself, once it has been implemented. Any differences in motivation and behaviour before and after the process has been implemented will be investigated. The impact on the Organisation, including financial performance will also be considered.


研究的局限性---Limitations of the Study:


Due to the distribution of the workforce across the UK, from as far afield as Scotland and Cornwall, the research will be restricted to staff operating out of 2 regional offices, namely, Wigan in North West England and Cwmbran in South Wales.
