CHAPTER FIVE RESULTS AND DISCUSSION


5.1 Analysis of the Questionnaires

In order to understand the development of students' thinking quality, this studyemployed quantitative analysis method, inputting the results of the two tests ofstudents' thinking quality before and after the research into SPSS 22.0 data analysissoftware, carrying out paired sample T-test to analyze the changes of students'thinking quality. The tools of thinking quality in this study include thinking qualitytendency scale and thinking quality scale. Thinking quality tendency scale is appliedto measure their thinking habit, motivation and attitudes. Two scales are applied totest the change of students' thinking quality, and compare the two test results.

(1) Analysis of the Results of Thinking Quality Tendency Scale

The total scores of the two scales were tested by paired T-test thinking qualitytendency and paired T-test of all dimensions of thinking quality tendency. And totalscore segment statistics of the whole class were collected to investigate theimprovement of thinking quality tendency of the subjects.

The following are the results of paired sample T-test of students' thinking qualitytendency.

6.1 Major Findings

The three-month research has completed and after analyzing the questionnairesand the tests, and the proposed questions can be analyzed and the findings can besummarized as follows.

As for the first question, the current of students’ thinking quality is summarizedas follows:

According to results of questionnaires, the scores are evidently different,indicating the characteristics of students’ thinking quality vary from person to person.And from the results of tests, some students are good at inferring, while others do wellin making conclusions. In addition, from analysis of interview, logical thinking is inan increasingly dominant position. Middle school students can think critically, butthey fail to think in a comprehensive way because of lack of experience. As forcreative activities like role-play and discussion, students find few ideas because ofinsufficient vocabulary.

As for the second question, the application of interactive reading model in middleschool, which integrates the cultivation of thinking quality, has a great influence onstudents' thinking quality. From the comparisons of test results of the two qualitytables of students’ thinking, the improvement of students’ thinking quality is obvious.The logical, critical and innovative qualities of thinking all have been improved.Among them, the students' logical thinking quality improved most, which wasfollowed by critical and innovative thinking quality. According to feedback from students, students' thinking is promoted in these lessons.
