摘要:话语分析已经吸引了来自不同研究领域的关注,它已经成长为一个异质性的学科。不过,由于话语分析有“话语”作为其首要的研究对象,研究它总是返回其主要关注一和组织关系的文字。


1.1.2.1 Bottom-up model
R B. Gough is the chief representative of this model. The notion of this model isthat reading is “a decoding process of reconstructing the author's intended meaningvia recognizing the printed letters and words, and building up a meaning for a textfrom the smallest textual units at the “bottom”(letters and words) to larger and largerunits at the “top,,(phrases, clauses, inter-sentential linkages). (Carrell, 1988:02)" Inother words, while reading a text,the reader starts from identifying letters andrecognizing words from the left to the right, and then combining them into sentencesand comprehend the meaning of the whole sentence, and then the whole text.


Chapter Two Research Design


2.1 Purpose of the Research
The main purpose of this study is to conduct an action research to improvestudents' discourse awareness by applying discourse reading teaching approach toEnglish reading teaching classroom.Moreover, through constant reflection of the teaching process and the actionresearch result, the teacher would offer some feasible suggestions on discoursereading teaching approach.


2.2 Research Participants
Participants in the action research can be divided into two groups: the teacherresearcher and students she teaches. The teacher researcher taught two classes Englishin Nanjing Institute of Engineering when she was a third-year postgraduate. And thetwo classes' students,totally 138, are also the participants. All of them are noneEnglish majors,majoring in Financial Management (Class A) and Industrial Art(Class B) respectively. Their English level is relatively low as a whole, but the twoclasses' students are different at the attitude of English learning. Students from ClassA are more active in class, while students from class B are more passive. The contrastbetween the two classes contributes to finding out the effect of discourse analysisteaching method.

Conclusion


The chapter concludes the whole thesis. First, it summarizes the major findingsof the action research. Then,it analyzes in-depth the pedagogical implications forChinese teachers to apply the discourse-oriented teaching method in EFL readingclass and Chinese students to engage discourse reading strategies in their reading.
