ch Alpha coefficient is used for the discussionof reliability quality, and the inter-item correlation analysis and factor analysis results areused for the discussion of the construct validity of the NHCE test. In addition, facevalidity and content validity will also be discussed in this paper as other two keycategories of validity besides the construct validity for the reason that the NHCE test ishighly instructional which aims to test language ability of test takers required by thecourse standards and Requirements (2007).Moreover, a description of normal distribution is done first since it can give readers ageneral view about the test results of subjects, which is then followed by analyses of bothquantitative and qualitative data results collected after the test for an evaluation ofreliability and validity qualities of NHCE, along with the discussion based on these results.Meanwhile, item analysis of testing items as multiple choices and blank fillingrequiring a limited production response will be further discussed in this paper for thereasons that both represent different testing methods and the former of which remain themajority of testing items of the NHCE test paper while the latter is introduced into theNHCE test for the first time.

Conclusion

So far this paper has discussed the development of theories in language testing,which seems to be the essence for all kinds of test. As it is widely known that languageability cannot be measured directly, which is a relatively abstract concept in humanscience. Consequently, by giving language learners various kinds of tests, teachers can getsome clues of learners’ language ability through their test performance.The NHCE test guided by Requirements (2007) and the college course standards inthis study is fundamentally supposed to test the language ability and use of language in awell-rounded way, together with the mastery of basic language knowledge taught in theclassroom. The quality of the test paper is therefore of great importance in revealing levelof learners’ language ability.Applying Bachman’s test usefulness formula, the quality of NHCE test paper isevaluated. Theoretically, the author applies the basic requirements of the college coursestandards and Requirements (2007) for an evaluation of NHCE test paper developed byitem bank of NHCE online system. Empirically, the author evaluates two most importantqualities of any test, reliability and validity. The results can help us discover bothstrengths and weaknesses of NHCE test and also the reasons for poor performance on thewhole or on certain test tasks.
