Conclusion


The thesis is a tentative exploration, so the deficiencies are inevitable. In the experiment, many factorsthat may influence the outcome of the students are not included. The limitation mainly lay in the followingaspects:
1. The present study only prolonged three months, which is to short to have a deep influence on thestudents. What’s more, metaphorical teaching method is a new concept for the teacher and students. On theone hand, the teacher couldn’t find a quite efficient way to make the students carry metaphor theory out inlistening tests. On the other hand, the students find it more difficult to identify metaphor when they havelistening than reading. Therefore, the result of the study is that the metaphorical teaching method is notbetter than the traditional way.
2. As for the process of the experiment, the amount of samples is small and the subjects may notrepresent the whole college English learners. And the 12 extra experimental lessons are also limited in boththe amount and content. And a lot of explanation of the listening text is too shallow.
3. The design of the test paper is mostly based on the previous researchers and not so perfect. Thevalidity and reliability of the test results can be improved in the test design.
However, although the present research still has a lot of places which need to be improved, it stillmakes a certain contribution to the study of the metaphor and listening teaching or hopes that it may shedlight on the later researchers.
Due to the insufficiencies of the present study, the following investigations are needed.Firstly, longitude studies for larger number of subjects from other kinds of colleges may produce amore convincing explanation of the impact of metaphorical teaching method on listening comprehension.Secondly, more focus on how to use metaphorical analysis method in listening comprehension.
