摘要:As the title of the thesis suggests, this study intends to find out the effects of thedifferent types of teacher written corrective feedback on non-English majors’ writing self-efficacy, that is, which types of teacher written corrective feedback will affect on raisingnon-English majors’ writing self-efficacy.
2.2 Self-Efficacy
2.2.1 Definition of Self-Efficacy
Bandura (1995) defines self-efficacy as a―belief in one’s capabilities to organizeand execute the courses of action required to manage prospective situations. In 2001,Pajares and Schunk put forward: “the self-efficacy involves planning and executingactions at given levels, showing the theory is more specific and situational view ofperceived competence” Generally, self-efficacy is the confidence in one’s ability tocomplete a task they deem important or worthwhile. Writing self-efficacy is regarded as individuals’ judgment of their competence inwriting, specifically their ability to write different writing tasks and of their possession ofvarying composition, usage, and mechanical skills (Pajares & Johnson, 1993).Shell, Murphy and Bruning (1989) believed that there were two parts of writing self-efficacy. The first part is the confidence that students could successfully perform specificwriting skills such as grammar, word usage, collocations, and composition as well asmechanical writing skills such as correctly punctuating or organizing sentence into aparagraph in order to clearly express a theme. The second part is confidence that studentssuccessfully complete specific writing tasks such as writing a paper, authoring a shortfiction story, or writing a letter to a friend.
