摘要:本文是英语毕业论文,本文以关联理论为框架,依据斯珀伯和威尔逊对构成认知语境的各种假设的分类,对比研究了《琥珀》的汉译本。为了凸显不同译者的认知语境构成对译文的影响,笔者除了选取著名翻译家傅东华《琥珀》汉译本中的语料外,又另外选取了两名当代译者的《琥珀》汉译本中对应的段落。

2.1 Review on Cognitive Context in Translation
Western scholars’ studies of context in translation can be classified into twocategories: the ones employing the context of system-functional linguistics and theones employing the context of cognitive science. The relevant literatures will bepresented according to the categorization.Once the System-functional linguistics came into being, it has been applied totranslation studies by translation theorists, like Catford, Baker, House and so on.Catford is the first one applying Halliday’s view on context to translation studiesand stressing the significance of context to translation. Catford (1965) argues that asfor the problem of context, “it is therefore desirable to have a framework of categoriesfor the classification of ‘sub-languages’ or varieties within a total language.” (p.63)The framework mentioned by Catford is the one developed by Halliday into twodimensions: user-related and use-related.Juliane House (2006), the one who presents a theory of translation which is to beunderstood as a theory of re-contextualization that explicates the relationship betweencontext and text, argues that context cannot be regarded in written language translation as dynamic or negotiated. She (2006) believes that functional approachesto language, functional pragmatics and Hallidayan systemic functional linguistics aregiven pReference over psychological, pragmatic, sociolinguistic and conversationanalytic approaches because their notions of context is found to be more suitable forwritten text and thus for a theory of translation as re-contextualization.

2.2 Review on Studies of Forever Amber
Against the theoretical background of narratology, Li Lina, by adopting severalnarrative methods like direct speech, free indirect speech, ominiscient narrator, etc.,analyzes Forever Amber in terms of its hero’s and the heroine’s different views’ ofmarriage (李丽娜, 2005). Wang Xichun and Li Chunguang, by adopting feministtheory and Freud’s theory of personality structure, analyze the merits and defects inAmber’s personality and probe into the reasons that result in the contradiction andanxiety of the female characters living in a society dominated by men in the novel.(王新春&李春光, 2009). Peng Hui (2009) and Li Chongfei (2010), taking ForeverAmber as a case study, analyze the female independent awareness about life, marriage,economy, politics, etc.. Wang Rui (2012) conducts a research on Amber’s tragic fatein the light of the Hegel’s Theory of Tragedy and besides tries to display the tragiceffects intended and conveyed by the author, Winsor.
