lity, and students should possess the basiclistening ability to understand the working tasks and take in the information in thecommunicative environment.The current situation of vocational college students' listening ability is not so satisfying,because the guiding theory of English learning for the curriculum offering and the teachingpractice in the past is to pay much attention to input and little attention to Output, whichdecrease students interest and destroy the motivation of in learning English. Most collegestudents have obstacles not only in grammar and English words, but also in thecommunicative capacity. The traditional training mode of listening courses usually adoptsthe approach that the teachers play the radio, and the students listen and answer questions.The students are thought to be good if they can simply answer the questions. The finalteaching objective of this training mode is to make students grasp the important pointsduring listening, with language input as the focus of teaching. It ignores that listening is justa way of language learning, and the real teaching objective is to make students possess thecompetence of reading, speaking, writing and even translating by means of listening.Because the requirements for students in vocational college attach importance to the practiceand the application the only instruction by teachers cannot meet the needs of language use.As a result, the teachers should convert the traditional training modes into the new ones,which are to convert the listening and questioning into the interaction between the teachersand the students or the students and the students. In other words,the teachers should paymore attention to the Output of language and set it as the training mode, meanwhile,motivate students to do the Output exercises, and thus help students improve their listeningability and relevant listening-speaking, listening-reading, listening-writing andlistening-translating ability. What's more, teachers can give students the opportunities to findout what they lack in their knowledge system and stimulate their desire to make up them bysetting the language output as students' leaning objective.


  
  1.2 Objective and Research Questions of the Study研究问题和目标
  It is essential to improve students' listening ability, but how to find a suitable way tofulfill it? Nowadays, the vocational college students have many problems in their Englishlistening acquisition.1) Poor English foundation and low initiative. Vocational college students' scores ofcollege entrance examination are always lower than those of the students in the universities.Most of them don't have a good command of grammar,words, listening and speaking. Worsestill, some of them even have never had listening classes. The problem of pronunciation andintonation makes them ashamed to speak English, let alone listen and understand thelistening materials. Meanwhile, some of the students lack initiative and the ability of dealingwith problems independently. Because of their poor foundation, they feel frustrated andself-contempt, which,to a large extent,deepen the difficulty of English learning.2) Misleading learning objective and inappropriate listening materials. Many vocationalcollege students set up incorrect objectives in learning English.
