摘要:本文是英语语言学论文,本研究采用 Biber 的语块分析模式并结合体裁理论,分析应用语言学英语学术期刊中外写作者的立场语块使用特点及差异,并对差异原因进行语用分析。研究结果表明,英语专家写作者广泛使用立场语块,其中 5 个在每百万词库中出现超过 40 次,18 个出现 20 到 39 次。
Chapter One Introduction
This study concerns the evaluative resources in the context of English for academicstudy, with special attention to the use of stance bundles in research articles (RAs) writtenby advanced Chinese writers and English expert writers. It aims to reveal the features ofstance bundles identified in English expert writers’ academic writing and explore differentways of expressing stance between advanced Chinese and English expert writers. Thispart provides an overview of the study. Therefore, the research background, researchpurpose, research significance and research organization are presented here.
1.1 Research Background
With the globalization of economic growth and cultural exchange, academiccommunications among countries have become more frequently. International academicjournals and research articles have become an important channel for the communicationbetween learners and researchers worldwide. Therefore, the question of how to composeacademic discourse and how to express the writers’ stance appropriately and accuratelyseem to be of great importance.Expressing authorial stance appropriately in academic discourse is a complex taskfor language learners, which is crucial for successful academic writing. Many studieshave shown that expressing stance in writing is a challenge task for L2 students, whocome across discoursing issue of showing their evaluate stance and critical view towardrelated literature and other research findings. For example, Groom (2000) suggests thatmany L2 students do not have a clear understanding of the nature and function ofacademic discourse. They do not realize that they are expected to develop a stance andmark their critical view to a question under discussion①.

1.2 Research Question
Stance resources are commonly used in academic discourse of any language or field.The research attempts to provide a detailed description and interpretation of authorialstance bundles in research articles in the discipline of applied linguistics written byEnglish expert writers and advanced Chinese writers.Firstly, this study aims to reveal the distribution of stance bundles used by Englishexpert writers. The stance bundles are analyzed from the perspective of structural andfunctional categories, also the stance bundles presented in different “moves” are given.Secondly, a detail comparison is conducted between English expert writers and advancedChinese writers in terms of structural, functional categories. Distribution of stancebundles across moves is also reported. The final purpose of the research is to provide anadequate interpretation for the different use of stance bundles in research articles by English expert writers and advanced Chinese writers.To achieve these purposes, the following four specific questions are addressed:(1) What is the general use of stance bundles in the RAs written by English expertwriters with different structural and functional categories?(2) What is the general distribution of stance bundles used by English expert writersin different “moves” in RAs?(3) What are the similarities and differences in the use of stance bundles by Englishexpert writers and advanced Chinese writers with different categories (structural &functional) and moves?(4) What are the possible factors for their different use of stance bundles?By answering these questions, the study is expected to provide reference for theteaching of a
