English  vocabulary  mainly  depends  on  mechanically memorizing  by  the  students.  According  to  Krashen's  language  input  hypothesis  theory,  the approach  does  not  meet  the  interest,  understandability,  relevance  and  sufficient  input  of  the vocabulary  acquisition  conditions.  Therefore,  it  is  urgent  to  explore  and  reform  the  English vocabulary  teaching  model  in  rural  junior  high  school.  And  it  is  imperative  to  introduce  the multimodal discourse analysis theory into the English vocabulary teaching in rural junior high school. ultimodal  discourse  analysis  theory  is  based  on  Hallidy's  systemic  functional linguistics,  it  makes  the  research  field  of  discourse  expand  and  extend  from  the  language  to except language outside image, music, sound, video, gestures and other non-verbal areas. The teaching  approach  advocates  applying  the  multimodal  discourse  analysis  theory  to  improve the  effects  of  English  teaching.  In  this  paper,  it  will  introduce  the  multimodal  discourse analysis  theory  into  English  vocabulary  teaching  in  rural  junior  high  school  and  explore multimodal  teaching  mode,  multimodal  teaching  characteristics  and  multimodal  teaching advantages  through  specific  teaching  experiments.  In  theory,  it  is  the  supplement  and enrichment  of  multimodality,  and  it  is  also  the  optimization  to  the  theory  of  English vocabulary  teaching  design.  Therefore,  it  is  a  great  theoretical  significance  to  study  the application  of  multimodal  approach  to  English  vocabulary  teaching  in  rural  junior  high school.

2.1 Relevant Concepts 
Multimodality is a term discussed widely by semioticians and linguists in recent years in the social semiotic circles in western countries.
