2.2 Theoretical Basis
The main theoretical basis of multimodal English approach are multimodal discourse analysis theory, Hallidy's systemic functional linguistics, Krashen's language input hypothesis theory and Edger.dale's cone of experience theory.Multimodal discourse analysis refers to the phenomenon of communication to use visual, auditory, tactile and other senses through the voice, language, action, images, other means and symbolic resources. In the process of multimodal discourse communication, the meaning of discourse is often reflected by non linguistic factors. It can fully understand the real meaning of the speaker to combine the content of the speaker's communicative language with the non linguistic factors such as the the speaker's action , eyes and tone. Therefore, teachers usually use PPT to cooperate with themselves to teach in the process of English class teaching. It is a kind of teaching method to use tow modes of visual and auditory for teaching, which involves watching video animation, listening to audio files, slides with a variety of voice and other modes of teaching process. The simulation and explanation of the teaching contents are carried out through the visual, auditory and tactile by teacher. The analysis of the discourse produced by this kind of communicative approach is called multimodal discourse analysis. Professor Zhang Delu (2009) proposed the theoretical framework of multimodal discourse analysis through the explanation and analysis of the theoretical framework of systemic functional linguistics in the exploration for the framework of multimodal discourse synthesis theory. The theoretical framework of multimodal discourse analysis can be divided into four dimensions: cultural dimension, context dimension, content dimension and expression dimension.
