摘要:翻译不是简单的文字转换,也不仅仅是语言形式的转换。因为翻译是一种创造性的语言活动,而人们进行语言活动的主要目的就是交流思想,英汉两种语言在表现形式上所表达的思想既有相同之处,当然也有差异存在,而且一般差异较多。
电影是一门艺术,吸引雅俗和大众娱乐的一种形式。电影片名是一种特殊的文本,作为一般浓度的内容和题材的影片。更重要的是,一部电影的标题应该传达丰富的文化内涵,在不同层次的目标语言。
The movie is an art appealing to both refined and popular taste and a form of mass entertainment. The movie title is also a special kind of text which acts as the general concentration on the content and theme of the movie. What’s more, the film titles should convey rich cultural connotations at different levels of the target language. The impact is beneficial to achieving not only the artistic value of the film title, which mainly plays the role of cultural transmission, but also the commercial value. He Ying classifies the functions of movie title into four types, including informative, expressive, aesthetic and vocative function. Gone with the Wind and Farewell to My Concubine exemplify the successful film titles which make lots of exotic audience love it at the first sight and be curious to watch these two films eagerly. The forth Chinese Translation published in 1997 inserted an article called “The Problems and Strategies of in the current Translation of Western Film Titles”, which is written by He Yuemin. There He Yuemin pointed out the current translation of film titles leads to confusion regrettably and gives an analysis of the reason of this situation. It also offers some practical strategies. Fortunately, her analysis is complete with some proper available strategies.

Whatever perspective scholars take, all of their studies share only one point, that is, their orientation to discuss and solve the problem from a single perspective. Because of the common features of the movie titles, we should approach the titles from a single perspective. The suggestion that translation theorists should abandon a pure scientism attitude toward translation is proposed by Snell-Hornby. And Gentzler proposed that culture should be considered as translation units rather than the text and accordingly culture studies should be included into translation studies .
