摘要:Domestic scholars also have shown a keen interest in finding a way to solve theproblem that how words can be better acquired. They put great effort into the study ofincidental vocabulary acquisition, especially in reading.

Comparedwith the purpose of “answer questions after reading”, “retell the text after reading”will pique effective vocabulary acquisition for a greater degree. Chapter 2 Theoretical Frameworks


2.1 Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition
Nagy Herman firstly puts forward the concept of incidental vocabularyacquisition in the research of children's native language vocabulary acquisition. Hefound that children can acquire vocabulary in the course of reading or listening music.He also hold that the majority of native language vocabulary is most likely to begained incidentally, but not through intention learning. Many scholars have paid theirattention to study the incidental vocabulary acquisition. Some researchers also havegiven the definition of incidental vocabulary acquisition from different aspects butthey all believed that incidental vocabulary acquisition is a kind of unintentional pickup of information. Relatively speaking, there is no precise or uniform definition forincidental vocabulary acquisition now. People are more likely to agree with thedefinition of Laufer (1998). In his view, incidental vocabulary acquisition is oppositeto intentional language learning. Incidental vocabulary acquisition refers to theprocess of acquiring vocabulary incidentally. Students don’t focus on the words incarrying out other learning activities (such as reading, watching TV programs orlistening to English songs), but they acquired some words incidentally. IntentionalVocabulary Learning refers to the direct and clear purpose of vocabulary learning,learners focus all efforts on word knowledge to build vocabulary through exercise oractivities. (Lafer & Hulstijn,2001) In China, the traditional vocabulary learning is tomemorize the words deliberately with the purpose to learn certain word knowledge.

2.2 Dynamic System Theory


2.2.1 Introduction of Dynamic System Theory
Dynamic system theory is also called DST for short. This theory derives from abranch of natural sciences such as mathematics. The most typical example for thetheory is the complicated change in the wing of pendulum. (De Bot, Lowie&Verspoor,2007). DST paid its attention to how the complex natural world and nonlinear systementer a systemic state from chaos. Dynamic scientists are interested in how disordergives way to order, of how complexity arises in nature ‘to some physicists dynamic isscience of process rather than state, of becoming rather than being’ (Gardner, 1982).DST pays its attention to how the complex natural world and nonlinear systementer a systemic state from chaos. All time changing has become the main property ofDST. Moreover, a change in one variable also can cause a series of change in thesystem. Actually, the method here is more like the previous means what we called“nonlinear dynamics”. In linear dynamics, systems can reach a balanced state.However, it is impossible to reach such a state in real-life process such as health,real-life human relationship and language development.
