The first step to form the system of IVA is to build the connection betweenacquired vocabulary knowledge and the new words. Only in this way, can studentstranslate the new words into his knowledge structure. The acquired knowledge refersto the knowledge that is stored in the mind. Sometimes, it is also called implicitknowledge, which can be simply defined as knowledge that is not explicit.Krashen (1981 & 1982) presented the point of “no interface”. He holds that theacquired knowledge (implicit knowledge) is totally nothing to do with the learnedknowledge (explicit knowledge). Although, repeated practice and use may improvestudying explicit knowledge, explicit knowledge can not be changed into implicitknowledge. However, Dekeyser’ s study (1997) found that: whatever the learnerlearns ( e.g. learn language or learn footballs), the learning process is dynamic whichalways change from expressive knowledge (“that- knowledge) to proceduralknowledge (“how- knowledge). From his point of view, after repeated practice anduse, the explicit knowledge would finally transfer into implicit knowledge.Although learning and acquisition are two different studying methods, they are

Vocabulary is the foundation of foreign language learning. The importance ofvocabulary learning is self-evident for English learners. From the perspective of sociallinguistics, word is the most important social communication system component( Lavbov,1973). It is necessary for learners to have a good command of vocabulary.Only when students acquire an adequate vocabulary, can they understand the meaningby reading and listening, which make the writing possible in English. Therefore,guiding and helping senior high school students to acquire an adequate vocabulary isan important task for English teachers and researchers.However, teachers often face a dilemma in the field of vocabulary teaching: onone hand, teachers want to try their best to teach vocabulary as much as possible; onthe other hand, it is impossible for them to devote too much time to vocabularyteaching.
