2. The rhetoric features of advertising English
Nowadays, rhetoric skills are widely used in advertising English with the development of the reform and opening-up policy, people can read English advertising more often than before. As for advertising, a particular daily writing style, this draws much attention from the target audience. There are several outstanding features about the artful advertising. It is the feature that makes the language of advertising vivid, profound, and readable. Thus, some writing skills in written advertising are more artfully needed than other forms and the language should be enlivened and attractive in order to convince the target audience. For the purpose of their goods, advertisers often use some figures of speech in advertising process. Take the following cases for instance.
2.1. Personification: it means depicting things or other living as human beings, which enliven the product so vividly as to make customers feel warm in mind. The personification used in advertising intends to personify the things which will be advertised. It can also make people feel close and amiable. Take the following for instance, “We are proud of the birthplaces of our children, the grapes of the birthplaces of our children—“Alma den”, “Flowers by beauty speak from the heart.” “‘Terylene’ keeps is promise.” More still, “Peony stands out for taste.” “The global brings you the world in a single copy.”(李太志, 2007:102) From these ads, we can see that the wine and grapes are personified with human being. This may force customer to know, even to drink Alma den. Flowers, brands, cigarettes and books or periodicals, all of which seem to speak out, so it is no doubt that there exists so much warm feeling between the commodity and the customer that it attracts the customer to seek for the product.
