摘要:语法教学是外语教学中的热点问题。在我国,长期以来,英语教学方法主要是语法翻译法,语法地位举足轻重。但由于它忽视学生交际能力的培养,以至于许多人学了多年的英语连一些简单的交际语也不会说,更不用说运用英语进行交流。

1.2 The Reasons, Purpose and Significance of the Research研究的意义,目的和原因
Grammar teaching has been a hot issue in foreign language teaching. In China,for a long time, the Grammar Ttranslation Method is one of the main ways of teachingEnglish. And graminar is very important in learning a foreign language. However,many people cannot speak a single word, let alone they use English forcommunication even after they have been studying English for many years. Thereason is that the Grammar Translation Method ignores students' communicativecompetence. In recent years, as the Communicative Approach is introduced to ourcountry, training the communicative competence becomes the main goal of theEnglish teaching. The effect of grammar has been weakened. However,the Englishgrammar teaching mode which only uses Communicative Approach does not reachthe desired goal. After a period of practice and introspection, people finally realizethat weakening or even canceling grammar teaching has caused many disadvantages.And then many scholars begin to think that the Grammar Translation Method shouldbe combined with the Communicative Approach.At present, most English educators in high school can agree that the GrammarTranslation Method should be combined with the Communicative Approach and thatway is also suitable for high school students to leam English grammar. But they fail topoint out clearly that which grammar items are more suitable for the GrammarTranslation Method and which items are more suitable for the CommunicativeApproach. This thesis attempts to find a more suitable way for middle school studentsin China to study English grammar by using the classification teaching mode,.Now in the society,there are many people studying English. But their Englishlevel differs greatly. Whether their level is high or low depends largely on how muchgrammar knowledge they have and the ability to use grammar knowledge for furtherstudying. That determines whether they can finally master the language,Secondly, language is a complex system of signs. Grasping the systematicgrammar knowledge can help students appreciate foreign culture, get English thinkingability,make students better understand the writer's aim about making up sentencesand appreciate the deep thoughts and feelings which the author want to express.Grasping the systematic grammar still can help middle school students make morecomplex sentences and express more complex ideas.Moreover, English learning can't be simply by acquisition, but through standardsystematic learning consciously with purposes. Many people think that the teaching ofgrammar unnecessary and can rely on acquisition. This view is not correct. Middleschool students are in the basic education stage and English is not as the professionalcourse. Besides learning English, they also have to leam many other courses. So,every day,their time of contacting English is very limited. Almost only in theclassroom can they fully contact the target language. After class,they can studyEnglish only in the clearance between other courses. In this stage, there is not a lot ofEnglish environment for middle school students to enmesh. Therefore, Englishlearning can't be simply by acquisition, and more is to be learned through purposes,and consciousness.
