Chapter 4 The Strategies of Improving English Teachers’Classroom Teaching Behaviors

There are some potential problems that exist in English teachers’ classroomteaching behaviors in junior middle school, and a number of front-line Englishteachers and researchers have been concerning these problems and they are also thefocus of this paper writing. In this chapter, it mainly introduces some strategies forimprovement to these problems and accordingly improves the effectiveness of Englishteachers’ classroom teaching behaviors in junior middle school.

4.1 The Holistic Strategies of Optimizing English Teachers’ Classroom Teaching Behaviors

Holistic strategy refers to the strategies that are used to improve Englishteachers’ classroom teaching behaviors from the perspective of a macro level. Forexample, from the perspective of school leaders, teachers’ professional development,English training and so on.English teaching ideas are the source of English teachers’ classroom teachingbehaviors. Under the influence of the new reform curriculum, it establishes the valueof taking students as the center, which also requires many front-line English teachersto change and transform the traditional English teaching ideas and to build the newEnglish teaching ideas that are student-centered. And according to the new curriculumstandard for English, the purpose of English classroom teaching is not only to acquireEnglish knowledge and get good marks but also to help students master solidlanguage skills and develop students’ practical communicative ability. In addition,modern English classroom teaching is open and ecological, and it encourages studentsto participate in the classroom activity and cultivates students’ English learninginterests and autonomous learning ability. Under the background of effective Englishteaching ideas, school leaders and front-line English teachers should not stubbornlyattach great importance to the short-term benefits, especially the marks andenrollment rate, but pay close attention to the long-term benefits. For example, how tocreate English teaching and learning environment, how to form the school features ofEnglish teaching, how to activate students’ English learning motivations and interestsand how to develop students’ self-learning ability.

With the development of society and technology, the nine-year compulsoryeducation has changed a lot in the past few decades. And under the background ofnew curriculum reform and teachers’ professional development, English teachers’classroom teaching behaviors have a dramatic influence on the effectiveness ofEnglish classroom teaching and at the same time, these behaviors can fully reflectEnglish teachers’ teaching ideas, teaching knowledge and practical teaching ability.Furthermore, English classroom teaching is an interactive process between Englishteachers and students.
