摘要:本文是初中英语教学论文,笔者认为教师应培养学生的词块意识,为学生正确、准确地识别、背诵和应用语块提供机会。教师还应根据具体情况,帮助学生适当选择和检索词汇块。
d i nvestigate E nglish writ ing methods i n middle sch ools t o se ttle the above m atters primarily.English native speakers do employ many chunks verbally and in written form. This part plays a significant role in promoting social skills. As a res ult, this paper is designed at inspecting the effects of lexical approach o n middle s chool st udents' Eng lish w riting development by pra cticing trai ning accumulating lexical chunks. So the aim is to find out a feasible way to develop students’ writing skills. The way of lexi cal t eaching pro vides a new persp ective for Eng lish writin g te aching. T he le xical chunks has appeared only for a short time and it is restricted in the field of theory development and college English teaching research(Ding Yanren,2005).But the survey is not focused on students who have a good knowledge of English and expect to improve writing skills. In fact, the research is to explore the feasibility of the Lexical-Chunk Approach in writing teaching in middle school. It s hould be valid to discuss the method of lexical teaching in middle school through the author's practical experience.

Chapter 2 Literature Review
2.1 Definitions and Classifications of Lexical Chunks
Lexical c hunks h ave m any differen t definitions. Fo r exam ple, P awley a nd Sy der (19 83) use “lexicalized sentence stem,” Wray (1999) adopts “formulaic sequences,” Nattinger and De Carrico (2000) apply “lexical phrase,” Moon (2002) adopts “multi-word item.” Different definitions of lexical chunks are given from different as pects by different researchers in their own studies. But in general,we discuss the definitions in three p erspectives. The fi rst is fro m g rammar side. Altho ugh le xical c hunks are used frequently, the experts define lexical chunks based on some rules. In terms of corpus linguistics where the definition is on t he b asis of num ber of occ urrences and res earchers’ co mmon kn owledge.In short , t here are a v ariety of def initions of le xical. In this res earch, o n t he basis of v arious definitions discussed above, the researcher views a lexical chunk as “a chain of at least of words, incessant or bro ken, c hangeable or u nchanging, w hich c onstitutes a si gnificant a nd w hole un it.” In order to be convenient, the study nowadays uses “lexical chunk,” or the short one “LC.”

2.2 Related Studies
There exists quite a lot of r esearches on lexical chunks, and t hey are usually concerned about three fields: lexical chunks acquisition, the processing of lexical chunks, and the application of lexical chunks. Many investigators give emphasis to the fact that lexical chunks play an essential role in the language acquisition. The results from these studies demonstrate that lexical chunks are firstly accumulated wholly, but it is not perpetual. If analysis is feasible, the lexical chunks are exhausted, regulated and associated to give more appropriate meanings (Wray, 2002). To be exact, lexical chunks don’t need to be analyzed and then separated into fundamental parts, which can be used in creative, rule-fixed language.
