摘要:句子在写作中发挥着重要作用,文章中句子的特点可能直接影响到文章的整体素质,同时也反映了学生的写作能力,以及语法复杂性和句法的组成变化的程度的特征。

Why the author chose the compositions sophomores is that the secondyear study is a transitional period for English majors-the transition lower level tohigher level, which plays an important role in their learning.The significance of this study lies in two aspects. Theoretically, it is expected tofurther widen the scope of analysis of foreign language learners' syntactic features andcohesion. As mentioned above, previous researchers paid attention to learner'ssyntactic feature one aspect. There is little appreciable amount of descriptivedata on learners' syntactic features in writing holistic view. Moreover, most ofthe previous researchers did not English majors as subject but non-Englishmajors. In view of these situations, the researcher of this study chose English majorsas subjects and analyzed the syntactic features and cohesion in writing. Practically, thefindings of this study may deepen students' understanding of syntactic features inwriting, based on which teachers especially may take some measures in writingteaching. Only in this way can teachers help their students have a better understandingof English syntax and improve their writing skills.
1.3 Organization of the study
The paper consists of five main parts:The first part is an introduction that firstly introduces the background for thepresent study and then briefly reviews the significance of the study. Finally theoverview of the present study are introduced.The second part focuses on theoretical studies on syntactic structure. It makes ageneral introduction of the concept of sentence, sentence variety, sentence complexityand cohesion and previous studies in these aspects.Chapter Three illustrates the design of the research including participants,research questions, and research procedures.Chapter four shows the results and discussions of the research. The t-test wasused as the statistical instrument. This research indicates that there exists significantdifference between the two groups in terms of syntactic complexity.In the last part, the conclusion and some implications were made. In addition, thelimitations of the study were stated.
