摘要:Theoretically, to the author’s knowledge, few studies at home have investigated thedifferences between the reading effects of traditional printed text reading and hypertextreading, not to mention how hyperlinks in hypertext reading influence students’ readingeffects.

this feature of hypertextmakes traditional reading face with a great challenge. Hypertext offers the ability to movethrough information among hyperlinks which are probably predetermined by hypertextdesigners. On the basis of inheriting the traditional way of reading, hypertext reading reflectsits unique way of reading, so compared with traditional printed text, there are some mainfeatures in hypertext reading. They can be summarized as the following: Traditional printed text is essentially linear order, which is a kind of closed and static text.The sequence of the texts can only be ranked according to the linear structure. However, thestructure of hypertext is nonlinear order, which is a kind of open and dynamic text. So thestructure and sequence of hypertext are not fixed (Sun Zhen, 2011). The hyperlinks offervarious paths among text segments and the reader can move among related nodes in a freeway, he can scroll the mouse up and down and then click his mouse on the node that has beenselected (Bellamy, 1999). Hypertext sets up one kind of system, which is able to combine,arrange and present abundant learning materials and information in unlimited number of ways.The textual form turns from two-dimensional structure into three- dimensional structure or adynamic system in four-dimension (Wang Honglei, 2006). Hypertext adopts network structureto organize information, and readers can select and combine their learning contents bythemselves. As Lewis H. lapham said, the differences between printed text and digital mediacan be summarized as this: visual/tactile, mechanical/organic, sequence/simultaneity,composition/improvisation...syntax/mosaic and so on (Lewis H. lapham, 2000).

2.2 Previous Studies of Hypertext Reading


2.2.1 Studies at Home
Huang Fengming (2001) first described the features of hypertext reading: “Hypertextreading is characterized by following hyperlinks so as to understand intertextuality, enjoy thepleasure of surfing by jumping from page to page and offer possibilities for readers to achievetheir individualization.” From thenceforward those domestic researches on hypertext readingbasically carried on from ‘network reading’ perspective. What’s more, most of scholars laidemphasis on the comparative analysis of network and traditional printed carrier, and putforward to correspondent countermeasures. For example, Xue Mei (2007) believed that thehypertext on which internet carriers depends possess some characteristics, such ascomposition, openness and so on. However, traditional reading carriers have some features, including simple and convenient, giving readers more opportunity to make a rationaljudgment and thinking. She also proposed different promotion measures, which was suitablefor these two different types of reading. For example, develop some reading activities andenrich internet reading content.
