nbsp;this study is to seek the effect of using games as a teaching strategy of grammar instruction to raise the grammatical accuracy level of high school students in China. This
thesis also explores the effect of game-based grammar instruction on students’ motivation and classroom atmosphere. The participants in this study were divided into two groups, the control and experimental groups, and received 12 periods of grammar instruction by the same teacher over three months. The teaching contents were the same for both groups. The difference consists in the use of games for the experimental group. The results of this study are based on data yielded from students who were exposed to 12 periods of English grammar instruction. Data was collected using the instruments as follows: Grammar tests, questionnaires, interviews, observation records and field
notes. While the main result doesn’t prove that students had got significant improvement in grammatical accuracy the overall improved performance is a worthwhile achievement, especially in students’ motivation and classroom interaction. The difference between the pre-test and the post-test, between experimental class and control class reflects that the students are very different from before to after the treatment. The tables with figures and percentages can help me conclude that game-based teaching method does help improve grammar accuracy although no statistically significant improvement in accuracy was recorded. The positive outcomes of other aspects can warrant the conclusion that if the use of games can be protracted an improvement in grammatical accuracy will show up. Enhancing grammar learning with the help of educational games drew the students’ attention almost all the class time. Moreover, the study showed that the use of games could motivate the students and help them improve the four skills of English, especially speaking. The improvement of speaking fluency helped them build up their confidence.

This study was a case study carried out to investigate the effects of using games to enhance students’ acquisition of English grammar. What’s more, the study also examined the effects of games on students’ motivation level. It also looked into students’ interaction with the teacher and other learners to see if it helps improve the classroom atmosphere. A total of 90 Senior One students of Taixing
