As for its practical significance, It can help people understand the difference inlanguage using between genders clearly. It also has practical significance in communication andunderstanding between people of different genders; and help people use address terms correctlyin daily communication so as to build a new type of equal, harmonious and friendly addresssystems.This thesis consists of six parts.The first part is an introduction to this thesis, which serves as the basis for the discussion inthe following chapters. Chapter One is the literature review of this thesis. In this chapter, theauthor reviews the studies on language and gender both at home and abroad, and the studies onaddress terms both at home and abroad. Chapter Two is the theoretical framework, whichillustrates the origin, development and influence of feminism, the definition of sexism, thedifference between sex and gender, as well as the relationship between language and culture. Thefollowing three chapters are the main parts of this thesis. Chapter Three is concerned with theperformance of sexism in English address terms. Sexism can be reflected in social markers andsemantic meaning. In Chapter Four, the author analyses the reasons for this phenomenon, amongwhich the most important ones are historical background, social reality and religious influence.Chapter Five deals with the suggested strategies for the achievement of language equality. Thelast part is a conclusion, which includes major findings of this research, limitations for this thesis,and suggestions for further study.
