Since  Barthelme’s  Snow  White  was  published  in  American,  it  first  attracted  critics  and readers from American and Europe. It shocked all the people who read it. Some even thought it was meaningless. But the responses to it were always positive. Some researchers studied his creative  forms;  some  focused  on  the  language  and  themes  and  some  also  analyzed  the personality of characters. Firstly,  as  to  Barthelme’s  creative  forms  of  the  novel,  Larry  McCaffery  once  classified Snow  White  as  meta-fiction.  He  thought  Barthelme’s  strength  lied  in  “the  inward, meta-fictional quality of his writing” (McCaffery 1992). He also pointed out that the language in Snow White reflected the trash art. Although the novel was based on familiar junk materials, it succeeded in absorbing them into the context in the fictitious way and let them be suitable to  the  situation.  Another  scholar  Louis  Gordon  claimed  that  Barthelme  changed  all  the traditional  writing  methods,  such  as  the  plot,  the  time,  the  space  as  well  as  the  difference between  fact  and  fiction.  (Gordon  1981)  These  words  revealed  the  most  obvious characteristics of Barthelme’s Snow White.Besides, the technique collage was talked about by many critics. For example, Richard Gilman once said in his Donald Barthelme that the fiction could be seen from a prism, thus, the figure of the original identity was produced with the evolution of people’s consciousness.

2   Theoretical Foundation

2.1   A General Description of Maslow’s Need Hierarchy 
It was Abraham Harold Maslow who put forward and developed need hierarchy theory. He was not only a psychologist, but also a personality theorist. In the 1950s, Maslow created the  third  trend  of  thought,  which  was  humanistic  psychology  system.  This  trend  of  thought challenged  the  first  and  second  trends  of  thoughts,  which  were  Freud’s  psychoanalysis  and John B. Waston’s behaviorism. They controlled the temporal western psychology at that time. His theory was a people-centered humanistic psychology theory. Humanistic psychology was not only different from Freud’s biological reductionism, but also different from the theory of the external cause of behaviorism. It was based on the theory of the internal origin. In 1943, Maslow put forward the need hierarchy theory in his article A Theory of Human Motivation.
