2.2   Appraisal of Need Hierarchy Theory 
Without doubt, Maslow’s need hierarchy theory has been widely accepted. It has many positive  factors.  First,  his  theory  is  people-centered,  which  has  changed  people’s  traditional attitude  to  human  beings  and  people has revalued the human factor. Maslow thinks that the starting point of Freud’s psychoanalysis is based on the study of psychopaths, where people become  the  victims  of  instinct.  The  starting  point  of  Waston’s  behaviorism  is  based  on  the study  of  animals’  behaviors,  where  people  become  the  victims  of  external  environment. Though human beings are involved in both of the two trends of thoughts, they can not solve people’s problems and can not explain the existing realities. Only the humanistic psychology confirms  human  beings’  behaviors,  consciousness,  purpose  and  creativity.  It  emphasizes  the difference between human beings and animals and pays more attention to people’s value and particularity.  The  theory  of  people’s  behaviors  not  only  includes  the  internal  and  inherent deciding  factors,  but  also  includes  external  and  environmental  deciding  factors.  Freud  just pays attention to the first point while Waston just pays attention to the second point. Maslow thinks that the two points should be combined together. Therefore, western critics think that Maslow’s  psychology  is  another  milestone  in  the  process  of  human  beings  understanding themselves.  Second,  Maslow’s  theory  studies  people’s  motivations  and  behaviors  starting from studying people’s needs, which is advisable. Motivations control people’s behaviors and come from needs. Therefore, if you want to mobilize people’s initiative, you should start from treating  people’s  needs  correctly.  Here,  Maslow  concludes  the  universal  rule  of  people’s thoughts  and  actions.  Third,  Maslow  thinks  that  the  substantive  characteristic  of self-actualization is the full play of the potential and creativity.
