Operation management is involved with supervising,designing as well as redesigning in the production of goods or the process of service. Operation management is concerned with the obligation to ensure the high efficiency of business and the effectiveness in satisfying consumers' demands. The operation manager is next to the senior manager in commercial contexts. The managers of the highest level is responsible for shaping strategies and revising them now and then, while the operation managers have the responsibility of carrying out the strategies. (Pilkington & Meredith, 2009) More commonly, operation management is aimed at developing the content of extra-value activities in every certain process. (Hartness, James, 1912) Operation function is also the core and support functions among accounting and finance, marketing, human resources function. operation managers are responsible in four aspects, supervising staff, project management, cooperation with clients and function as resources while general managers are responsible for all areas of a company. Operation manager takes effect in the daily operations of the enterprise or business. And the only purpose is to make for a more productive enterprise by offering effective ways of business operation. With strong communication skills, an operation manager has the capacity to control the inventory, deal with the logistics and supervise the employees, what's more, the individual must have abundant leadership background and quick in mind and action. In terms of the working environment, to provide a positive work environment which generates innovation, energy and group-work among employees. Through all sorts of meeting conducted by the managers, issues of each department are listened to and a professional example will be shown through leadership. The manager is the spokesman for the committee and discuss the strategy objectives to make the business more successful. Procedures for workers to obey are set by the operations manager. All managers in enterprises can be classed as operation managers when the responsibilities relate to understanding strategic objectives, developing operation strategies, the design of product and process, planning and controlling and improving performance. And generally, they contribute to the four areas of engineering process, accounting and finance process, human resource, information technology, product or service development as well as marketing function. Besides, planning and controlling is considered the most important responsibility, (Opsman, 2010)
