On the Restrictive Factors in and the Major Influences of the Translator’s Subjectivity


Abstract: 


Translation is a kind of complex and dynamic intercultural communication. As a go-between of the communication, the translator occupies a crucial role in the translation process. The translator’s subjectivity is always displayed from the choice of the source text to the production of the target text. Therefore, the translator exerts a decisive influence on translation in a certain sense. However, the translating practice all through the ages seems to have indicated that translators, as the main subjects of translation activities, have been marginalized. Until in recent years, as translation studies turned their attention to the cultural aspect, the translator’s subjectivity has been gradually focused on by translation scholars at home and abroad and thus becomes one of the hot issues in the translation study field. The paper, based on a survey of previous studies on the translation, addresses the restricted factors in the subjectivity of the translator, altogether with its influences, and attempts to further the research on the subjectivity in translation.

摘要：


翻译是一种复杂的、动态的文化交流活动。译者是这一交流活动的中介,在翻译过程中起着至关重要的作用。译者的主体性会在从选择原语文本到生成目的语文本整个翻译过程中得以体现。因此,从某种意义而言,译者对翻译具有决定性的影响。然而多年的翻译实践证明，作为英语翻译论文专区翻译活动主体的译者已经被边缘化。直到近几年，随着翻译研究将其注意力转向文化方面问题，译者主体性逐步受到国内外翻译学者的关注而成为了翻译界热烈讨论的话题之一。在总结以往相关研究的基础上，本文主要探讨翻译中的译者主体性的制约因素及其主要影响，以期深化有关译者主体性的研究。
