the translator who plays an indispensable and irreplaceable role in translation.
However, translators have not received proper social and academic recognition for their work until the cultural turn of translation studies. Before that, the subjectivity of the translator had long been obscured, which resulted in the marginalized cultural status of the translator. But since the latter part of the 20th century, more and more attention has been paid to the importance of the role and the status of the translators. Many new theories and schools have helped to establish or promote the translator’s status and subjectivity from various perspectives. In a word, the study on the translator’s subjectivity opens a new horizon for our research about the translator.
The translator’s subjectivity has generally been understood to be the subjective initiative of the translator in his translating activity and reflected in the finished product of this activity. It refers to the translator’s creativity, his manipulation of the text and his individualized choices based on his independent judgments and it reflects his individualized aesthetic ideals, his values, his intentions, his idiosyncrasies and the social cultural environment in which he lives. The translator’s subjectivity is a fact that cannot be denied and should be considered seriously if people want to understand the true nature of the translation.
On the whole, the present thesis includes five chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction of the significance of studying this topic and basic structure of this paper. Chapter two starts with a brief survey of different statuses of the translator, and then makes a tentative effort to explain the connotations and manifestations of the translator’s subjectivity. Chapter three is elaborated from four aspects to further explain the restrictive factors in the translator’s subjectivity: restrictions from the social environment, restrictions from the original texts, restrictions from the readers, and restrictions from the patrons. Chapter four reminds us that the translator’s subjectivity exerts great influences on the translation practice. In the end, chapter five is the brief retrospective summary of the main ideas discussed in the previous parts.

II. The Connotations and Manifestations of the Translator’s Subjectivity

It is well known that the practice of translation depends on the translator who plays an indispensable and irreplaceable role in translation. Translators’ great contribution to the establishment of cultural construction and the inter-cultural communication has long been ignored. Translators and translated works have been put to an unbearable marginal status. This part analyzes the different statuses of the translator in different periods and the connotations and manifestations of the translator’s subjectivity.

Ⅴ. Conclusion 总结

In recent year’s translation studies, the translator has been recognized as an individual living in a certain cultural background and fully engaged in the literary, social, and ideological realities of his times. The subjectivity of the translator in the translation process is independent of human’s will. It is reasonable to treat it seriously rather than ignore it as before. Only when the translators know it well and face up to it, can they make the best use of it to acquire a satisfactory论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
