gal English will be examplified, for example the features of lexicon and the features of syntax. After having a good understanding of the linguistic features of legal English, it is much more easier to find neglected problems and difficulties hit by translators, summarize the E-C translating skills and strategies, and present constructive advices to later translators not to make the same mistakes again in the future translation of legal English texts. Meanwhile, this translation project provides a comprehensive introduction of the UK?s legal system and can function as a guideline to those who are preparing for the ILEC exam (International Legal English Certificate).

Chapter Two Preparation for the Translation Project
2.1 Introduction to the Original Text
Professional English in Use: Law is a legal book written by Gillian D. Brown and Sally Rice. It was published by the Cambridge University Press in 2007. After its publication, it became an ideal companion for people who want to study and understand the UK?s legal system. In 2010, it was introduced and published by the Post and Telecom Press, still in its original English version. Up to now, there is no Chinese version of the book. The book contains 45 two-page units and is categorized into four thematic parts: The legal system, Law in practice, Legal professionals, and Legal professionals in practice, (including Contract, Liability, Intellectual property, Environmental law, and Information technology law), primarily fastening on the practices of commercial law (including
company law, employment law, contract formation, real property, sale of goods, and intellectual property).

2.2 Analysis of the Translation Project
The original text is a book of legal English, containing a large quantity of legal vocabularies, professional terms and jargons, and many long and complex sentences. Though the material itself is not too difficult to apprehend, due to the basic traits of legal English – that is preciseness and rigidness, the translation work still requires a lot of time and efforts, especially when dealing with the Latin and French terms, old-fashioned words not much in general use, legal jargons and words with special meaning in ordinary use, all of which need careful attention. What?s more, the long and complex sentences also are a conundrum. Only by mastering the sentence constituents and making clear the logic can the text be accurately understood, and then a good translation comes into being.
