Robinson Crusoe and The old man and sea are very famous in world literature. Robinson was an adventurer, Santiago was a code guy.

Although Robinson nearly drowned at his first sailing, and was robbed in his second try, he didn’t give up his dream. He went to sea again, and this time he got trapped on the island. Robinson’s adventure sprites showed that the bourgeoisie were not satisfied with the situation and wanted to take over the world.
 
Darnel Defoe portrayed Robison as a person full of passion. His struggling against the nature, demonstrated his remarkable will. As long as Robinson being trapped on the island, he conquered the entire negative attitude and put all his thought on fighting against nature. Because of his hard-working and wisdom, he used the simple tool to overcome countless difficulties and finally created his living condition.
 
Robinson, after his experience on this desired island, never trust luck, whether good or bad. He played all the wisdom of himself, working constantly to improve his own food and living condition, and finally created his own kingdom. Robinson is so popular, because he gives us the true meaning of life. We human beings can achieve our own values by ourselves even in an isolate condition.
 
In the earthquake of Wen Chuan, a lot of people lost their family and lovers. All they had was almost destroyed. In this situation, we need brave enough to face it, and borrow ideas from Robinson’s sprite to help ourselves to conquer that disaster.
 
Hemingway drew a distinction between two different types of success: material and spiritual. While Santiago clearly lacks of the former, one way to describe Santiago’s story was as a triumph of indefatigable spirit over exhaustible material resources.  The characteristics of such a spirit are those of heroism and manhood. Which Santiago can end the novel undefeated after steadily losing his hard-eared. Most valuable possession is a testament to the privileging of spiritual success over material success.
 
Santiago suffered terribly throughout the Old Man and Sea. In the opening pages of the book, he had gone eighty-four days without catching a fish and had become the laughingstock in his small village. He then endured a long and struggled with the marlin only to see his trophy catch destroyed by sharks.
