Chapter One Introduction


1.1Background
英语是一门基础和强大的通信手段,在许多领域中起着非常重要的作用,在全球范围内的通讯。为了满足社会的需要,学校英语教学,尤其是英语口语教学更重要的是越来越多在我们的国家。现在英语已经成为学校主要科目是一样重要的,中国和数学,而且越来越多的语言环境知识教育部门采取英语口语考试作为高中入学考试的一部分,英语口语考试是英语考试的必要组成部分大考。在高中高考英语口语表达已审查了几年。所以在这种情况下,为了提高英语能力,尤其是越来越多的关注都集中在英语口语表达熟练。English is a basic and powerful means of communication,which plays a veryimportant role in world-wide communication in many fields. In order to meet thesociety needs, school English teaching, especially oral English teaching is gettingmore and more important in our country. Now English has become one of main schoolsubjects which is as important as Chinese and mathematics, and more and more localeducation departments take oral English exam as a part of High School EntranceExams, and oral English exam is a necessary part of English exam in CollegeEntrance Examination. The oral English expression has been examined in HighSchool Entrance Examination for a few years. So under such a circumstance, toimprove English competence, especially more and more attentions are focused on oralEnglish expressing proficiency.

Of course, this alsoconcerned with Chinese exam-system itself. However, the classroom activities arealways designed for improving the students’ language skills mentioned above.Numan(1992) says “ success is measured in terms of the ability to carry out a conversation in the target language.” Zhu Yidan (2009: 1) points out that thefundamental goal of foreign language teaching should be the acquisition of oralcompetence, the ability to be understood. It is really clear that speaking skill takes themost important position among the mentioned four skills from his words. In the lastdecades, Chinese language teaching methods were influenced by the oversea theories,and up to now, because of the exam-system’s issue, language learners are still taughtby the traditional teaching methods, such as grammar translation method etc, whichplace emphasis on grammar and translation. However, the traditional languageteaching method is found inadequate to meet the needs of achieving the ultimate goallanguage teaching to promote the English learners’ oral communicative ability andexpressing competence. And there are some major problems existing in our juniorhigh school English teaching as follow:
