Chapter Two Literature Review
2.1 Definition of Key Concepts
This part focuses on three of the study's major concepts:critical reading teaching,critical reading strategy,and critical reading ability.
2.1.1 Critical reading teaching
Scholars both at home and abroad have provided reasonably detailed definitionsof critical teaching reading.In a narrow sense,critical reading teaching is a teachingmethod whose goal is not to teach students basic linguistic and cultural information,but rather to attempt to disclose the circumstances and objectives of language usageburied in critical material.Furthermore,critical reading as a pedagogical methodentails various pedagogical features,such as the selection of reading strategies and theexecution of certain teaching procedures.Critical reading teaching requires studentsto dare to challenge authority.And it emphasizes the students'initiative in the readingprocess and their objective attitude toward the reading text,which is exactly thecharacteristics of critical reading teaching.For example,from the perspective of therequirements of critical reading teaching for students,Clegg(1988)&Pirozzi(2003)believed that critical reading teaching needs students to discriminate between factsand falsehoods,information and rumors,public policies,and personal prejudices inwhat they read.
2.2 Previous Research on Critical Reading Teaching Abroad and atHome
This section will cover relevant studies on critical reading teaching both abroadand domestically.Since the notions of critical reading initially emerged in themid-20th century,they have sparked considerable interest in language studies andpedagogical settings.Several specialists and academics with a passion for the subjectcarried out studies including theoretical studies and experimental researches andpresented their individual connected research results.The collection of these studiesprovides the writers with great materials for preparing the paper.
