摘要:Memetics is a new pragmatic theory which provides a new thought in college Englishteaching and enlightens teachers to explore new teaching methods to improve the writingproficiency of students. In previous studies, scholars pay much attention on the application ofmemetics on writing training and vocabulary learning.
4. Data Analysis and Discussion
In this chapter, the data analysis will be presented and the related discussion also will befollowed. In addition to the data comparison of the two classes on writing, the author as wellhas a comparison in detail, such as the comparison in words, sentences and text structure. Soin the three aspects the progress the students make will also be presented in this part. In thefirst part, the author will show the data analysis, and the discussion of the quantitative study toexamine the memetics teaching method is more effective than traditional teaching method onwriting proficiency. The second part centers on the qualitative study. The related note-takingon experiment will be presented, including the daily writing tasks and the compositions ofpre-test and post-test. The author can get known the problems on students’ compositions fromthe pre-test. At last the author will select randomly several compositions from two classes onpost-tests to have a detailed comparison, so as to see clearly what improvements the studentsin experiment class make in the aspects of words usages, sentences structures and paragraphstructures.

Conclusion
As we know, writing plays a critical role in English learning. However, for most collegestudents, it is also the most difficult skill. Seeing from the current English teaching, the authorregards that it is the main reason that lacks of cultivation on writing in English class. Atpresent, it is strongly advocated independent study and quality-oriented education in colleges.Therefore, teachers slacken the supervision and control on students, which result in thelow-enthusiasm of students. The author believes that it is necessary to bring writing traininginto English class to improve students’ writing proficiency. Teachers should select positivewords, sentences and typical paragraphs as language memes, and ask students to memorizeand imitate in their composition writing.In this study, the author puts the memetics into application on college English teaching,putting the emphasis on the memorization and imitation of language memes, and advocatingthe supervision and urge for students. Through both quantitative study and qualitative study,the author intends to prove that memetics teaching method is more effective than traditionalteaching method. So find a better method of improving students’ writing competence inEnglish class. In experiment class, teacher puts the four stages of meme lifecycle and the twopatterns of meme transmission into teaching, and urges students to cooperate. So after 16weeks study, the data analysis shows that students in experiment class do make great progressin their writing. And what progress the students make also are presented after the analysis ofcompositions.
