摘要:The research figures out the present English learning situation and students’ demands toEnglish classroom environment in Northwest A&F University, which is of great significance.On one hand, it provides the first hand data information for the university’s construction andstrengthening of English classroom environment; on the other hand, the research, from theview of macroscopic level, provides data information to support the following research.
Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Background
新课程改革倡导学生自主学习,探究性学习,合作学习。为了实现学习方式的转变,它不仅需要教师转变角色,但还需要支持新的课堂环境。课堂学习环境是一个重要的支撑条件,并影响学习的一个重要变量。通过课堂环境,构建新的学习模式,它会提示学生掌握知识的一个良好的环境,建立科学和技术意识,推进自主,合作,探究学习的能力。
The new curriculum reform advocates students' autonomous learning, exploring learning, and cooperative learning. To realize the shift of learning style, it not only needs teachers to change the roles, but also needs the support of new classroom environment. Classroom environment is an important supporting condition of learning, and an important variable impacting learning. Through classroom environment constructing new learning mode, it prompts students to master knowledge in a good environment, to establish science and technological conscious, and to advance the ability of independent, cooperative, and inquirylearning. In order to adapt to the development of the Times and social employing demand, collegeEnglish teaching reforms positively, then college English classroom environment has alsoundergone a series of corresponding change. And this change whether according withknowledge of college English learners and development needs, will become issues ofresearchers that needed to be resolved.As is known to all, there is no natural and relaxed learning environment, Englishclassroom is one of the main channels of foreign language input. In fact, according to research,it shows that, when a student is in active and comfortable classroom learning environment, thestudy result will be greatly improved (Waldrip & Fisher 2003). The development of classroomenvironment research tools provides researchers with economic, effective and reliable surveytools (Clayton,2007) . Based on this, the case study of classroom environment seems not onlyfull of conditions but also of great significance.
Northwest A&F University located in the western underdeveloped region bears high frontier science and technology, aiming by focusing on the national and regional major strategic demand for agricultural production, actively develop the practical applications of the basic and applied research great task, and therefore its students' English levels are quite important, so under the new situation, is Northwest A&F university English classroom environment adapt to the all-round development of students, the school's strategic choice, social employing demand? This research will do a whole systematical investigation and considerations to the English classroom environment of the university.

1.2 Research Purpose and Significance
The research, guided under the learning theory of Social Constructivism, throughquestionnaire survey and interview, finds the status of English classroom environment andstudents’ need to learn the characteristics of the environment in this university. Besides, itbuilds an English-rich classroom environment and provides reference data, which can also bereferred by the university’s classroom environment construction.
