Conclusion 

This research discusses the CS use situations of English majors and Non-English majors  and  of  different  language  proficiency  EFL  learners  in  text-based  CMC  at Yanshan  University.  Meanwhile,  the  correlation  between  discussion  topics  and  CS employment is also explored in this comparative study. As  for  the  first  research  question  “What  are  the  differences  in  use  of  CSs between  English  and  Non-English  majors  in  text-based  CMC”,  the  SPSS  analysis results  show that there  is  no  significant  difference  in  CS  use  between  English  Group and  Non-English  Group.  Both  of  them  use  Clarification  check  and  Comprehension check  the  most  frequently.  However,  there  are  some  differences  in  their  least employed  CSs.  In  English  Group,  Use of  Chinese  and  Use  of  approximation  are  use the  least  by  them,  while  Confirmation  check  and  Self  correction  are  the  least employed  strategies  in  Non-English  Group.  As  for  the  second  question  “Is  there  a significant difference in different proficiency learners? using CSs in text-based CMC”, the  results  show  their  significant  difference  among  the  three  groups.  In  Proficient Group, they  use  Clarification  check  and  Self  correction  the  most,  while  they  employ Use  of  Chinese  and  Use  of  approximation  the  least.  In  Intermediate  Group, they  use Clarification  check  the  most,  while  they  use  Self  correction  the  least.
