1. Introduction


1.1 Background of the research

The comparison between expert and novice teachers, which is a new research style,have become more and more welcomed in the research of teachers' Psychology ever since the1990s. Many scholars at home and abroad have carried on theoretical and practical researchesand made remarkable achievements (for a review see Westerman D A, 1991; Livingston &Borko, 1989; Yu Guoliang 1999; Luo Xiaolu, 2000).However, the previous studies lack empirical researches with scientific instruments thepertinence to concrete courses. English, as a foreign language in China, is more difficult forstudents than the other courses, which leads to higher demands for its teachers. So the studyof English teachers' professional development seems to be one of the most important issues inteacher training. The current situation in the English classroom of most Chinese senior highschools is that a relatively large proportion of students have lost interest in English because oftheir teachers' inappropriate teaching behavior.重视教师在考虑如何改善这种情况,它知道自己的教学行为有很大的影响如何,对学生的英语学习的态度。本论文的目的来识别不同的专家和新手在中国高中教师之间的教学行为,定义是必不可少的因素,专家型教师,教师从新手到专家的转变,发现规律,从而提供一定的科学依据教师培训,这可能有助于帮助新手教师在一个相对较短的时间内发展自己。具体来说,以下问题将得到解决:1)什么是专家之间的差异呈现新手教师在英语课堂教学行为?2)不同的教学行为有什么影响学生的学习?3)什么样的发展阶段做新手教师通过他们进步到专家型教师? In considering how to improve the situation, itis of great importance for teachers to be aware of how great effect their teaching behavior hason their students' attitude to English learning.This thesis aims to identify different teaching behaviors between the expert and noviceteacher in Chinese senior high schools, define the factors that are essential for expert teachers,and discover the regular pattern of teachers' transformation from novice to expert ones, thusproviding some scientific basis for teacher training, which may contribute to helping noviceteacher develop themselves in a relatively short time. More specifically, the followingquestions will be addressed:1) What are the differences between the experts a novice teacher in presenting teachingbehavior in EFL classroom?2) What influences do the different teaching behaviors have on students' learning?3) What developmental stages do novice teachers pass through as they progress into expertteachers?


1.2 Significance of the research
Firstly, since it is not a long time since the implementation of the New CurriculumReform, it can provide some feedback to the researchers about the implementation of the NewCurriculum Reform as well as offering some guidance for future teaching in senior highschools by observing two English teachers' teaching behavior in a key senior high school of Yun Cheng city.Secondly, it will be helpful for in-service teachers.
