摘要：The research purpose of the paper is to prove for the writers that nominalization is atool for grammatical metaphor under the framework of functional grammar, and to find thecorrect use methods of nominalization and the differences of nominalization use methodsbetween foreign language learners and native speakers.

1.1 Literature Review
Langacker is the primary representative of modem functional grammar. He carriedthrough detailed explanation to noun and nominalization. Langacker(1991) considered thatnouns often originate from the other classes, the most common ones coming from verbs,secondarily from adjectives. And nominalization is very important.From the views of functional grammar above, it can conclude that acquire andacquisition are not semantic equivalents; nominalizations include a conceptual ratification,which Langacker defines as the result of concept of verbs and adjectives. Langacker(1991)did not pay attention to the issues of whether to put nominalization to syntax or lexicon, butrather considered nominalization mainly consists of three parts according to the formchanges: kinds ： There are many kinds of nominalizations which are on the basis of semantic,morphological and grammar properties. By one aspect, they vary as to which facet of theunderlying relational prediction is chosen for reification and profiling, that is to say,substitutive profiling. A second aspect of variation pertains to the internal organization: therepresentatives for the notions of process type or properties

2 The Theory of Nominalization

2.1 Distributions of nominalization
From the view of nominalizations and independent clauses，nominalizations can bedivided into lexical nominalization and clausal nominalization. Compared with clausalnominalization, lexical nominalization accounts for a predominant portion of the totalamount. In general, lexical nominalizations which are mainly verbal nominalizations andadjective nominalizations. so in this paper, we only research and analyze verbalnominalizations and adjective nominalizations.

2.1.1 Lexical Nominalizations
From the analysis above，it can get to the conclusion that nominalizations are veryirregular in English, and the transformation of nouns from verbs and adjectives do notcomply with specific rules. There are many different suffixes which mainly originate fromLatin and other changes which are related to nominalizations such as - ing, -ness, -tion andso on，or sometimes there is no any change. Otherwise，there might be a few ofnominalization forms which are related to one word, such as move, movement, movingoriginating from the noun forms of the verb “move” . Different lexical selections are thereflections of discourse adaptable process.
