1 Introduction

1.1 Reasons for the research
Humor, as a complex and ubiquitous form of language, is extensively studied bynumerous researchers throughout the world. In the long human history, there have beenquite a lot of study articles about the humor research concerning many aspects of liberalarts and humanities. Humor has played a significant role in the works of suchdistinguished writers as Shakespeare, Swift, Bernard Shaw and Mark Twain.Although humor is essentially a type of mental play involving a lighthearted,non-serious attitude toward ideas and events, humor serves a number of "serious" social,emotional, and cognitive functions, making it a fascinating and rewarding topic ofscientific investigation. There are many theories of humor which attempt to explain whathumour is, what social function it serves, and what would be considered humorous. Itwould be very difficult to explain humor to a person who does not have a sense of humor.In fact, to such a person humor would appear to be quite strange if not outright irrationalbehavior. Among the prevailing types of theories that attempt to account for the existenceof humor there are: psychological theories, the vast majority of which consider humor tobe very healthy behavior; there are spiritual theories which may, for instance considerhumor to be a gift from God; there are also theories that consider humor to be anunexplainable mystery, very much like a mystical experience.

Humor is a special form of verbal communication, which plays an important role inhuman's daily life. The study of humor is popular in the recent linguistic studies. Becausehumor is so familiar and is such an enjoyable and playful activity, many people mightthink they already understand it and do not need research in linguistics to explain it.However, the complicated mechanism of humor requires a cross study of combiningvarious kinds of linguistic theories. The study of humor has both theoretical and practicalimportance. If we want to gain insight into the English culture, humor is a tool.

.2 The significance of the research
Humor    research is    a multidisciplinary field    which    enters    the domains of Psychology, philosophy, linguistics, sociology, history and literature. However,remarkably few of the theoreticians in their particular disciplines have concernedthemselves with material from other disciplines. The study of humor needs a cross studyof combining multidisciplinary fields theories.Usually there exist three theories about humor: superiority theory from thesociological perspective, Relief theory and Incongruity Theory from the psychologicalperspective. Only recently, humor has come within the scope of linguistics. Humor studyfrom the linguistic perspective has gained its elevation.
