Chapter Four Results and Analysis


4.1 Analysis and Discussion of Students' Learning Enthusiasm Stimulationthrough the Integrated Approach
Firstly, the author wants to know whether the Integrated Approach can stimulatevocational college students' language learning enthusiasm and promote theircooperation with their classmates or not, both the two questionnaires and the post-testinterview are conducted to testify the question.The pre-test questionnaire consists of two parts, 9 research questions in part oneand another 9 questions in part two. The first 9 questions are mainly associated withstudents' attitudes and opinions about practical writing. Among them, number 1represents strongly disagree, 2 signifies disagree, 3 means neutral, 4 stands for agree,5 indicates strongly agree respectively.Table 4 offers the percentage results of the questionnaire covering the first ninequestions and the numbers of students who choose the responses.From table 4,38.5% of the respondents agree that female students do better inlearning English than male students. 46.2% of them strongly agree that effective studymethod does play a very important role in learning English well. As for question 3,most of them take neutral attitudes toward it, which means that some students believewriting is considered as the most difficult skill to be obtained whereas others opposethe opinion. Data of questions 4 to 7 indicate that more than half of the studentsconsider that obtaining a huge amount of vocabularies, mastering a set of languagerules, knowing different types of writing formats and reciting a great number of usefulsentence patterns are of great importance in learning practical writing. For question 8, only 43.6% of them hold the point of view that it does not matter to make grammatical mistakes in writing under the condition that using fluent English toexpress thoughts should be given the first priority. 38.5% agree that transformingChinese expressions into English is a good way to write compositions.

It is believed that writing is one of the eiTeclive means to fulfill main functionsof a language. Owing to its difficulty, improving writing ability is often regarded as adifficult task to perform especially for non-English major students.
