5.1 Summary of the Research

5.1.1 Improvement of Student Performance

Through  experiments  in  this  article,  it  can  be  found  that  there  is  a difference  between  reinforcement  through  crossword  puzzle  and  mechanical memory.  The  immediate  posttest  shows  the  difference  is  not  sig nificant between experimental group and controlled group. Their mean score are very close.  The  delayed  posttest  indicates  that  students  act  differently  in  long-term memory. The sig. of the t-test identifies there is a significant difference between the mean of experimental class and that of the control class. So the crossword  puzzle  has  a  positive  effect  on  students’  long-term  memory  of English vocabulary. This data showed that the crossword puzzle can improve the  English  vocabulary  performance  of  high  school  students  better  than  the traditional mechanical learning. Therefore, the crossword puzzle game has a positive  role  to  play  in  the  improvement  of  high  school  students'  English performance.
