The Skhotanes mentioned that their role models were Black Diamonds like Kenny Kunene and Khanyi Mbau; while they criticised black people with degrees because they “struggle like everyone else” and thus won’t consider them as role models. The most frightening thing about this growing trend among township teenagers is that many teenagers have committed suicide due to the fact that they could not keep up with the trends and demands of being a Skhotane.
