摘要:本文介绍了奥林匹克运动会的文化价值,作者选取2008北京奥运会,研究中国作为主办方,是如何通过开幕式展示本国历史文化的。

etes to one of their sports academies where they would grow up. Given China’s one child policy, taking children away from home is a great sacrifice for the parents. China needs political reforms to create sports that are free from government control. In addition, as a host country for the 2008 Olympic Games, their human rights standards contradicts to the IOC’s idea of ‘sport for all’ – a movement created by the IOC in 1983 to promote ‘the Olympic ideal that sport is a human right for all individuals regardless of race, social class and sex.’ (Olympic.org, 2012) The government really needs to pay attention to the issue of freedom.

Personally, as an Asian, when I first watched the ceremony, I found it quite difficult to understand. If I have not done this dissertation, I would not know that every little performance has an attachment to the Chinese culture and history. I feel that the ceremony was truly a work of art, but it failed to present the ‘new’ China. Firstly, China tried hard to present a new image but there was nothing new. The Four Great Inventions, the Silk Road, Taiji and so forth, all come from the time of ancient China. Only the technology, I believe, is new. Advanced technology was merged into many ancient elements to show a sense of creativeness, and that China is a technological innovator. Secondly, the choreography of the performance was splendid, especially with the movable type blocks, however, I presume most of us already know about the Chinese patriotism, as Fu Ying said, ‘Unity is deep in China’s blood.’ (The Guardian, 2009)

I was surprised by how happy were the performers on stage. Although the ceremony was systematic and speechless – there were only two songs and two sentences read by the ‘Disciples of Confucius’, from their faces, it was obvious that they were really happy to represent China, very patriotic. In Qing dynasty, China has ‘missed the train of scientific conceptual theory that carried the West into the modern age.’ (Ong, 2005:169) In the 21st century, China caught a new train and is moving even faster than the West. Without doubt, the limitation of my work, I would say, time. Even though I have set plans for every week, it was difficult to keep up with it and complete it in time as the path of the dissertation keeps on changing, and there are always new and interesting sources I want to add. If I had more time to extend my work, I would research about what happened after the Beijing Opening Ceremony, and explore whether China had gained so much advantages, the ‘different dreams’, from the ceremony that they need to over spend. Also, I will change my research method, and interview a few Chinese about their feelings on freedom in China. This will definitely enhance my knowledge on China’s human rights.

In conclusion, China successfully used the ceremony to represent a modern, high-tech, and harmonious nation. Each part of the ceremony was perfectly presented, and most of the important ancient Chinese cultural values were expressed. The slogan, One World One Dream, was cleverly exemplified by linking it to Confucius’ teachings, ‘All men are brothers within the four seas’, and the giant lantern. With the ‘new’ China, the ceremony only presented high-tech elemen论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
