In the 1980s,Professor Gardener's (1999) teaching pedagogy in HarvardUniversity put forward "Theory of Multiple Intelligences". And European countries'language course reforms have been going on in different countries since 1980s.Since the ministry of education of PRC issued the ECSSMS(ED) in 2003, kinds of. study have been carried out in China. For instance, there are many researches onteaching materials,learning strategy use, teaching methods and evaluation as well asthe adaptability of teachers. However, the implementation of the ECSHMS(ED),which includes the course design, the idea and the teaching management of theECSSMS(ED) as well as the basic quality of teachers, is very few.Since the fall of 2009,Hubei Province will have all entered into the newcurriculum innovation experiment. Until the winter of 2011,English CurriculumStandards has been implemented in Jingzhou, Hubei province for 2.5years. Therefore,a survey about the application of standards is especially necessary,which can find outthe problems during the application. We can search the reference ways to solve theseproblems and put forward the measures and reasonable suggestions for the betterpropelling the implementation of the ECSSMS(ED). In the meantime, it also has acertain reference value to Hubei or other provinces and cities to carry out theECSHMS(ED). Therefor we can open up a way to greatly expand the implementationof senior English curriculum Standards reform in the whole country.The primary purpose of the present study is to investigate the implementation ofthe ECSSMS(ED). To further investigate the implementation of the ECSSMS(ED), 、the present study attempts to answer the following questions:1) Have ECSSMS(ED) been really applied into SMS?2) What are the effects of the implementation of ECSSMS(ED) in Jingzhou?3) If there exists any difficulties, how to solve or improve?At present, the English course study implementation of senior high schools inour country is either a pure theory research and analysis or only aiming at a specificproblem in the classroom. The former forms the theory and form with variousconcepts and complex structure, but lack of the analysis applying to reality. The lattermakes insufficient contributes to the theory. Under the background of the curriculumreform,this study makes a comprehensive comb to the ECSSMS(ED),and providesthe most urgent reference and guidance.to its implementation. At the same time,italso offers some data to advance the implementation of the English course further toeducation department.Therefore, the significance of this research is not only to provide some basicresearch materials to the theory study of the implementation of the ECSSMS(ED),butalso to provide the guidance in practice and methodology for the implementation ofthe curriculum.


1.3 Organization of the thesis论文结构
The thesis is composed of six chapters. Chapter One introduces the researchbackground,purpose and significance, as well as overview of the thesis. Chapter Twointroduces the literature review. Chapter Three introduces briefly the main contents ofthe ECSHMS(ED),including its background,main content,course goal,basic ideasas well as new challenges to senior high school English teachers. Chapter Fourdescribes the research design, including the research questions, subjects, datacollection instruments, and data processing.
