摘要:本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,本研究尝试以问题导向的教学法(problem-based learning)为切入点,探讨阅读教学中批判性思维的培养。

本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,本研究以广州某高中高一两个理科班的73名学生为研究对象,进行了16周的教学实验。其中实验班采用的是PBL模式,对照班则接受常规的英语阅读教学。

Chapter One Introduction

1.1 Background of the Research

The cultivation of critical thinking is related to the survival and development ofindividuals,which is an important goal of contemporary talent training.The Outlineof the National Program for Medium and Long-term Education Reform andDevelopment(2010-2020)clearly states that the long-term development of educationneeds to focus on improving students'innovative spirit and practical ability,'creatinga good environment for independent thinking,free exploration and innovation,'andEnglish Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition)clearly statesthat,“The quality of thinking reflects the mental characteristics of the core quality ofEnglish discipline,”“Achieving high levels of quality of thinking improves students'ability to analyze and solve problems,enables them to understand the world from across-cultural perspective,and allows them to make correct value judgments.”;'Criticality'is listed as an essential ability and level of thinking quality.

With the deepening of curriculum reform,English teaching and research areconstantly challenging to break the deadlock of'emphasizing language andneglecting thinking'in the exam-oriented education system,and strive to keep pacewith language ability and thinking ability,so as to shoulder the responsibility andobligation of cultivating and improving students'thinking quality.It can be seen thatthe cultivation of critical thinking is the development trend and inevitable choice offoreign language teaching and research.

1.2 Purpose and Significance of the Research

1.2.1 Research Purpose

This study aims to construct a problem-based reading teaching model andexplore how to cultivate students’critical thinking ability through a series of readingactivities.Specifically,this paper examine whether reading teaching based on PBLcan improve students’critical thinking ability,and in what aspects the promotioneffect of in-depth inquiry is reflected.

It is the author’s hope that the results of this study will be helpful to Englishteachers who are experiencing difficulties cultivating the critical thinking abilities oftheir students.Particularly,high school teachers who do not cultivate students'criticalthinking abilities and fail to grasp their understanding of the cultivation of students'critical thinking abilities.

It is clear to us that critical thinking plays an important role in the developmentof students.The ability to observe,inquire,analyze,evaluate and demonstrate in thecritical thinking process,such as mathematical logic,can be trained and cultivated inthe classroom(Xia,2015).

High school students are in the early stages of critical thinking development.They have formed judgments and opinions about certain things.Moreover,They can also contradict others'ideas based on their background knowledge,life experiences,and thinking abilities.Consequently,high school is the best time for critical thinkingdevelopment.
