5. Findings and Discussion 

From  the  data  analysis  of  the  experiment,  the  author  observed  that  the application  of  the  EMS-Grammar  Teaching  Model  summarized  from  the  related theories  of  Cognitive  Linguistics  and  Cognitive  Grammar  has  proved  to  be  effective for  students  to  learn  English  grammar.  In  Chapter  3  the  following  two  research questions  are  put  forward:  (1)  Are  students’  language  ability  to  use  grammar structures correctly, appropriately and fluently been improved after application of the EMS-Grammar  Teaching  Model  in  class?  (2)  Are  students  becoming  interested  in learning  grammar  after  applying  the  EMS-Grammar  Teaching  Model  in  class?  The answers  to  these  two  questions  are  to  be  discussed  in  this  chapter  based  on  the  data analysis in chapter 4. The findings and discussion are described as follows.

5.1 Improvement of Students’ Interest in Learning Grammar. 

Through  data  analysis  of  the  questionnaire  survey  the  author  found  that  the students’  interest  in  learning  English  grammar  is  improved  after  applying  the EMS-Grammar  Teaching  Model  in  the  process  of  teaching.  Question  7  in  Chapter 4.3.2  Students’  Attitudes  towards  English  Grammar  is  about  students’  general attitudes  toward  grammar.  Before  the  experiment  27%  of  the  students  chose  “like very  much”  and  41%  of  the  students  chose  “like”,  but  after  the  experiment,  the percentage relatively increased to 30% and 42% respectively. All the data verifies the importance of the EMS-Grammar Teaching Model as it leads the students to form the idea  that  grammar  is  not  that  boring  and  dull  to  learn.  In  the  process  of  grammar teaching,  teacher  gives  students  a  proper  context  which  activates  their  daily experience and then students become interested in participating in the daily activities naturally because the context is very familiar to them. Through the context, students get  the  chance  to  directly  observe  and  feel  the  scene  of  language  use  and  then comprehend the grammar rules by themselves to some extent instead of by teachers’ boring explanation of the rules.
